About Camas Meditation Group

We are a small, informal group that meets every Sunday evening to share in meditation together. The goals are to have an opportunity to learn meditation practices from several traditions, to experience the energy of meditating in a group, and to share our experiences with our own practice. Above all, I hope that the group will serve as encouragement for our own individual practice.

There are many possible reasons for wanting to meditate. It is true that meditation can help us relax, help us cope with stress, encourage healthy balance and build calm and equanimity. Above all, however, meditation helps us to understand the process of our mind, and through that understanding begin to experience the true nature of the world and our place in it.

Whatever reason you have for wanting to meditate we hope that you will find a place that you can share with others on the path. If you live close to us (Camas / Washougal / Vancouver Washington, in the Portland Metro area) we hope that you will consider joining us. Absolute beginners or seasoned meditators welcome!

Jill Bolte Taylor: My stroke of insight

This video (about 18 minutes long) is a 'must see' for all meditators. I'm not going to comment much about it -- it speaks for itself.

Jill Bolte Taylor got a research opportunity few brain scientists would wish for: She had a massive stroke, and watched as her brain functions -- motion, speech, self-awareness –- shut down one by one. An astonishing story.
